Configuration Example: DIN Rail Computer with IoT Wireless Module and EN 50155 PSU

This DIN rail modular system is a combination unit, containing the DIN Rail Modular Gateway Computer MC50M, the DIN Rail Power Supply Unit MP1 and the DIN Rail Wireless Communication Component ME1.

Rugged Ultra-Wide PSU

The MC50M/MP1/ME1 module combination (compared to a single MC50M module) allows an EN 50155 compliant operating input voltage range from 24 V DC to 110 V DC nominal via M12 power inlet with ignition. This extends the full range supply voltage to 16.8 V DC to 138 V DC (constant operation) and increases the interruption class of the supply voltage to EN 50155 Class S2. In addition, it also provides galvanic isolation.

Wireless Communication Functions

For GPS/GLONASS functions, the system has an onboard GNSS receiver which is connected via antenna connector. The ME1 brings two M.2 slots for high-speed LTE modems (LTE Advanced or LTE) into the system. For each M.2 slot, two front-accessible micro-SIM card slots are available. The PCI Express Mini Card slot is prepared for adding a WLAN module or audio. The wireless communication features make the system suitable for use as an IoT gateway or for predictive maintenance.

Low Power CPU for IoT/Network Applications

The system is a low power gateway computer for embedded applications in transportation, e.g., in trains. The computing platform features an Intel Atom E3900 series CPU with low power dissipation and scalability in performance and memory.The system provides three Gigabit Ethernet M12 and two USB 3.0 interfaces, e.g., for communication. For video output, a DisplayPort 1.2a interface is available. The D-Sub connector provides serial interfaces RS422/485 and RS232, for, e.g., console connection.

Power Saving Design and Security Features

The board management controller of the MC50M provides enhanced reliability and reduced downtime. The Trusted Platform Module supports security and encryption features. With the ignition switch for remote control of booting and shutdown, the platform provides additional features for power saving.

Compact Housing and Versatile Mounting

Each module has a compact aluminum housing (W x D x H: 42 mm x 144 mm x 132 mm). Cooling fins and internal conduction cooling allow fanless operation. Various mounting options facilitate integrating the system into an existing environment. The 35 mm DIN rail mounting offers space saving mounting on a single rail. Wall mounting and mounting in a 19" rack using adaption brackets are an option.

In-Vehicle Qualified and Long-Term Availability

The system is qualified for rolling stock. Long-term availability of 15 years from product start minimizes life-cycle management by making the system available at least for this period of time.
