Fail-Operational: Triple Redundancy in Hardware
The design of MEN’s safe single-board computers A602 and D602 offers a triple-redundant setup on the hardware level. To the application, they appear as regular single-CPU cards with just one main memory rank. 2-out-of-3 voting in hardware keeps the three CPUs in lockstep. The boards’ method of operation is strictly deterministic, without interrupts and DMA.
Fail-Safe and Fail-Silent: Dual Redundancy with Redundant Software
The F75P safe computer unites three CPUs on one single board. With redundant software running on it, and with the software instances on the two control processors comparing their output, the board can shut down in case of a fatal fault. The two redundant CPU kernels support a safe RTOS and diversity, while the third CPU can run, e.g., Linux for convenient user interaction.
